What things have gone wrong with the car?doors do not close without a hard "slam"; trunk lid sounds "tinny" when closed; gas mileage could be better; should have more cup holders and storage areas for things like grage door openers

General comments? We paid $28,040 for a XLS with the works (heated leather seats and mirrors, high-end CD-player with sub-woofer, power moonroof, pearl paint, etc). We only paid a few thousand more for the Avalon compared to a V-6 Camry XLE with leather. The Avalon is a "poor-mans Lexus" and is an outstanding value. we like our '98 Avalon so much we plan to trade our '96 Camry XLE in on a 2000 Avalon in a month or two!! We've been buying Toyotas from the same dealer (Gresham Toyota) for over ten years. The combination of a great dealer and a fantastic car can't be beat!
Previous carLexus GS300; Camry XLE V-6; Acura TL sedan (V-6) The Avalon in the XLS trim is a better value overall and a nice step up from the Camry
